In 2013, prior to Purbeck becoming a Malnutrition Task Force pilot area, a number of stakeholders in Dorset healthcare came together to draw up a plan on how to tackle malnutrition throughout the county.
Known as the Dorset Nutritional Care Partnership, the group was formed after it was estimated that 32 to 42% of care home residents, 25% of those receiving care at home and 14% of the general population in Dorset were at risk of malnutrition.
The Partnership has devised care pathways for the early identification of malnutrition both in home and care settings. One of the aims of the pilot will be to test these pathways in the Purbeck area.
